Blog Intro

I watch horror movies, a lot.  Growing up, I was raised in a conservative family, and horror movies weren’t something that was encouraged much.  But even as a kid, horror and supernatural genres were fascinating to me.  So, naturally, as soon as I got old enough to get away with it, me and horror movies began a very intimate relationship.

In the past 12-14 years, I’ve begun a slow attempt to make up for lost time.  I can’t, in good conscience, say that I’m an expert, who is on par with the usual horror “experts”.  Far from it.  There are classics that I’ve never seen.  For instance, I’m still working on getting aquainted with all Michael, Jason and Freddy movies.  I’ve been hit and miss, missing certain titles in each series.  It all comes to availability and time.
Having Netflix the past couple of years has helped a lot.

In my defense, though, they’ve never actually been my favorites.   Zombie movies, on the other hand, have had lots of screen time from me.  Also, unlike most horror aficionados, there are subgenres that I don’t watch.  Anything considered “torture porn”, is a big no-no from me.  Nothing against gore, gore is expected from many horror titles, it’s just that I’m too nice of a person.  That is, I can’t handle suffering.  Even if it’s just a movie, too much suffering, is too much.  I prefer my deaths quick.  Pain is expected, but for goodness sake, don’t draw it out.  I can’t even hide my eyes, because I can still hear screaming.  Therefore, the first Saw is the last of that series that I will ever watch.  Cannibal Holocaust?  Doesn’t exist to me.  The Human Centipede?  Centipede Schmentipede.  So, these types of movies will, most likely, never make it in my blog.  Unless I’m feeling particularly brave and horrifying that day.

The reason I chose 50 movies to theme this blog on,  is because for the past couple of years, I’ve been working on a list of horror movies that I’ve seen.  It’s an ongoing work in progress, made up of remembering past movies and logging movies as I watch them.  At this time, my list is now at 350.  I decided to make a challenge for myself of getting to 400, within a month.  Personally, I’m pretty sure it’s in the body bag.  Especially since I’m off work quite often this month.  Bad for my bank account, good for my list.  Anywho, stick around for the first official post.
